Uxmal is the most splendid of the Puuc
sites.

The city flourished from 770-950 AD and its
finest structures went up in the last hundred years of
it's history.

The Puuc architectural and artistic
styles are very distinctive. Puuc buildings have
rubble: load bearing cores that are faced with a veneer of
finely cut stones. These are set up in complex,
geometric patterns that are often interspersed with
sculptures depicting birds, serpents and the Maya rain
God, Chac.
